i wish there was more CRAYDL in Impulse (1995). I need more CRAYDL in my life.

#bonemeal says silly stuff #Impulse 95 is full of loveable and relatable characters and I happened to latch onto the one character #Who is never physically seen and only has text boxes in a few panels in like 3 issues and never appears again #I keep thinking about the implications #Assuming CRAYDL can’t see inside the timestream #They just saw Thad Max and later Bart go into that portal #And only Max and Bart come out #Do you think they know? That Thad CHOSE to do that? Or do you think they blame Bart and Max? Or do they blame nobody? Do they blame Thad?#They spent hundreds of years with only each other as company. How does that loss feel? How many more years will CRAYDL be alone?#I doubt that someone would go out of their way to help or move or repurpose or even kill CRAYDL after that.#They’re just an AI. There’s plenty more like them out there and those are probably better at following directions.#Do you think CRAYDL knew the other inertias? thinking about the time they actually gave joey dialogue in the new teen titans: games…

“He could be role-playing with us. Art represents civilization. Maybe he’s showing us his end game?”

this says sooo much about him: his deductive reasoning skills, his appreciation for art, his understanding of other people’s psychology. i need more stories where joey gets to play detective, especially in an art or music history context, and i NEED him to have proper dialogue

#imagining an art heist job with his mom in the searchers inc. comic that exists in my head #let him be thoughtful & have a personality beyond just the sweet helpful guy who’s a good listener #we see some of this skill as a tactician in ntt #(that issue where titans tower gets attacked by the hybrid comes to mind #plus the super inventive ways he uses his powers in general)#but there’s a level of characterization you get from dialogue that he’s almost never given in ntt #there are some narration boxes that kind of give insight into his thoughts #and then there’s that issue in late late ntt that has excerpts from a book he’s writing about the titans #but in general other characters vaguely paraphrase things he signs or we just see their response & what he even said is only implied #really it wouldn’t be hard to give him dialogue like at all they did it here with text boxes that have quotation marks #you could also use angle brackets like they do in american comics when a character’s speaking in a language other than english #just have a little ‘*translated from american sign language’ as an editor’s note & people will know what’s going on #joey wilson #the new teen titans: games #undescribed

I'm frustrated and the well for people willing to put up with me talking to them about comics in meatspace has run dry, so this feels like the perfect opportunity to shout to the void.

If you intend to write in an unfamiliar language and don't have a native speaker you can talk to, try googling the signs you're going to reference before you commit to anything. If Noah is using the signs 'going' and 'where' he needs both hands to make those signs using BSL.

As a general rule, it seems strange to deliberately choose to have a character who speaks using SIGN LANGUAGE do things that PREVENT THEM FROM SIGNING. And it's deliberate, because just a few panels before, John is a dick to Noah about trying to speak.

And if the creative team decides against letting the conversation happen where the signing character can use both hands and actually be a part of the conversation, maybe it's a stupid decision to position the character who is speaking with the signing character BEHIND HIM AND LOOKING AWAY FROM HIM where he PHYSICALLY CANNOT SEE THE SIGNS BEING MADE.

I understand that comics are hard, I certainly can't do it, but I feel weird about these panels knowing that Noah NEEDS both hands to sign and that Noah needs the person he's speaking to, to be positioned at least partially in front of him to communicate.

You know what doesn't need either of those things?

Texting.

While yes, texting and driving is bad, is it worse than looking behind yourself and taking both hands off the wheel of a double decker bus in the middle of the night?

And don't tell me John Constantine couldn't hypnotize someone to get some free phones, he hypnotized a whole ass bus away.

When I was in uni we had to do a presentation on an artist chosen from a provided list and I chose Mark Ryden and the lecturer who I presented it to laughed and asked mockingly why I would make the presentation pink because it’s extremely unprofessional and I was like you mean this guy?

Why did I make a presentation on this guy pink???

#we were told the aesthetics didn’t really matter and to make them cohesive with the theme #and it was LITERALLY just a muted millennial pink background w white boxes and dark pink text #everyone else did black and white but we legit had people with dyslexia on our course so I didn’t wanna do that #AND other peoples were just as heavily decorated and coloured it was literally just the colour pink she bitched about #and I was like why? what’s the issue? it’s a major part of his work and it’s just a damn colour what’s your problem???#in front of the whole class I was so mad and embarrassed but I was too annoyed to drop it #we were also in pairs and I ended up doing the whole thing for a lot of reasons and then my partner couldn’t even pronounce the words #so it was made extremely clear I’d done everything and for some reason this makes teachers assume YOURE the asshole #I’ve had it so many times where I’ve been that guy doing the whole thing and then those in charge are like #why are you being such a control freak and nasty to your group #like idk maybe because I’m the only one even remotely trying and I don’t want to fail SHARON

i know its nitpicky and just me being sensitive probably but i dont like it when famous blogs screenshot peoples tags on their posts with 60k notes to make fun of them

#my philosophy is if someone says something in the text box? thats free game #you can take them apart as viciously as you want. they said that out loud #but with the tags its like... thats just mean #if someones vaguely annoying in the tags that is not an issue #the tags are there for weird organizational and talking about nothing purposes #now if you like the tags then you can screenshot it. peer review if you will #but if you dont like them then just leave them alone 😭
